DuPont on Tuesday said it was introducing a new parental leave policy, offering four weeks paid leave for new parents.

The policy covers all new parents, including adoptive and same-sex parents, the company said.

The new policy will take effect in the U.S. on June 1. By the end of 2020, it will be in effect across all DuPont's global locations, the company said.

For birth mothers, the four paid weeks are in addition to enhanced paid maternity leave which has been extended to 12 weeks, the company said.

Parents can take the four weeks consecutively, or can take leave intermittently in the first calendar year after the birth, DuPont said.

DuPont is a division of DowDuPont Inc.
