This royalty trust was run by a bank till recently when the bank off loaded the work of managing it to a small trust management company called Argent and coincidently the payout disappeared. Argent claimed several expenses that ate it. Most voted against the change and it took months to get enough votes. I saw the writing on the wall and sold out of it. Argent has effectively killed the golden goose and feasted on it. This is my last post.

DALLAS, May 19, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Argent Trust Company, as Trustee of the Hugoton Royalty Trust (the "Trust") (OTCQB: HGTXU) announced today a cash distribution to the holders of its units of beneficial interest of $0.010003 per unit, payable on June 14, 2023, to unitholders of record on May 31, 2023. The following table shows underlying gas and oil sales and average prices attributable to the net overriding royalty for both the current month and prior month. Underlying gas and oil sales volumes attributable to the current month were primarily produced in March.

You'll have plenty of time to buy at a lower price.
I called investor relations and the recording for distributions says the May distribution is about
$0.01. I don't think they are proud of it since there was no press release yesterday and they havn't even updated it on their website.
Not exactly great but at least Natural Gas has been going up the last couple of days (currently $2.585). Hopefully the June distribution will be decent.

Has anyone seen any news on this month's cash distribution.
Seems like they are a bit later than usual coming out with it.

Grabbed a starter position, now just have to see if that low holds or it goes lower.

Still watching from the sidelines.
The change from bank managed Royalty Trust run on banking ethics to a Trust Agency Company makes me suspicious that they find ways to charge the trust more than a bank would. Hope I am wrong and it comes back to at least a dime payout.
We should know more in a week.

--- for those who bought the other RT, It is holding up very well and will announce soon the quarterly payout. I have added there as well. These should mirror the Natural Gas price chart. Most think it is going cycle to up as it does every year.

Don't forget to take profit, even small as this fluid royalty trust dipped big today on small monthly dividend announced.
I sold and protected my gain before it tanked, but I will be back as it already has recovered a bunch.

I will wait for more of the scared to to sell so I can buy again and sell to the greedy. Circumstances involving the new trust agent could surface as well because they (Argent Trust Company) were recently put in charge and may have been allowed to change something from the previous Simmons Bank management's ethical treatment of the funds.

Please share any insight you can acquire with your DD, as I will.

Good posts today, Correctly done DD. Thanks everyone... I was hoping more longs would join the discussion so I put as much info together and posted it in 4 posts to be added as moderator. I discovered why it stopped paying, and when they called with the proxy I voted no. I believe the Texas owner W/6+mm did also. They got it approved to change to Argent Trust Co. from Simmons Bank, but no change to the basic pay formula was approved in the proxy.

A rare find and under the radar for all the right reasons. We are going to be rewarded while Exxon Mobile will be supplying these energy royalties. I believe they will be happy sending the energy to expensive California too via pipeline. If they offer the guy in Texas enough for his 6mm shares they could proxy a buyout, but as posted out it will be at least 10X the .20 attempt back then.

Each month I plan to add shares while it dips between payouts and sell a portion that are green above the amount of payout up to the 2 days prior Ex date (which includes the settlement period). I sold today on the rise due to Monday being Ex date and shares bought today won't be "settled": till after it trades Monday. Check with your brokerage for more information. My cost basis went from 1.85 on 50K shares to .60 this week, on 20K left by taking profit.

I found an even better RT but only because it is set up like an MLP. Non taxed payouts... There is no ihub board so I will share in PM as per request. I prefer it stays with longs. If volume ever goes to 7 figures daily it won't matter. This one had two days above 600K volume this week.

I do remember reading that but between XTO and XOM I couldn't remember for sure.
Nice jump in stock price though. Hope they can keep this divi up. It's sure helping the stock price.

These are not dividends paid to encourage the purchase of shares of a company about to go belly up.
These are royalties required to be paid each month making this stock pretty much short proof.
The reason they are currently under the radar is because they went through a period from mid 2015 until July of last year with little to no divi at all because of some settlements they had to pay.
Also i'm not sure who, but a company tried to buy out the trust awhile back at way below the stock price at the time and luckily the shareholders voted it down.

I was wondering when this board would start to wake up.
I'm still a bit baffeled that there is such low volume when the ex-date has already been annonced and even at $2.02, $0.1201 is almost 6% in one month. It's hard to find that kind of return in a year.
If they can put out over $0.12 per share when natural gas prices are down, what will the divi be if nat gas goes up?

One person in Texas holds over 6 million shares. I am guessing they were lobbied heavily regarding the recent proxy vote.

A recent change in the trust management did not adversely affect the stock.
The Simmons bank in Texas that was managing the payouts of several trusts decided to get out of the business of managing trusts and stick to banking. Argent Trust out of TN will manage it. There is no board of directors of a trust stock so no insiders paying themselves to sit on a board. The producing wells are from XTO energy which was acquired by Exxon Mobile. Longs were all sent letters and called to vote on the proxy. It was postponed till they could get enough votes to pass it.

Monthly royalty trusts in certain regions and positioned by their history coming out of a class action payout ending, will continue to pay imo, so follow the underlying commodity price and the amount will mirror the % move.

I'm in too(just a thousand bucks), for this upcoming divi, and kind of wonder why this isn't so popular.......My luck in picking these high yielding divi stocks over time, is that they are ready to go "belly up" in one way or another......I first found it here:

Usually, if these high payers keep on surviving long term, I could kick myself in the butt for not investing 10 or 20 times more bucks.......I'll bet on one of the following:
A: They stop paying dividends entirely......
B: They do a horrible reverse split, for "restructuring"......
C: They file for chapter 11 bankruptcy.......

As is typical, I miss the boat on "bailing out" in time, losing my entire vested amount......LOL.......At least I've learned to keep the loss "minimal", over time.......

I'm not sure what's going on here either.
Seems like there would be a lot to talk about now that a $1.60 stock is paying a 68% anual dividend based on this month's $.091 distribution.
It also pays its dividend monthly and this month it's about 5.7%.
Good luck finding anything paying that in a year, let alone a month.
At least it will keep the shorts away.
