Honda Motor Co. (7267.TO) will start boosting its car output in the U.S. from September as inventories shrank and government subsidies are lifting demand for fuel-efficient cars, the Nikkei reported Saturday.

The Japanese car maker will increase output by operating its plants in Ohio and Alabama on some Saturdays, the daily reported without citing a source.

Kyodo news said Honda may step up its production increase, depending on the market recovery.
