Focused on inspiring the next generation of inventors, Second Avenue Learning and USPTO will launch a free YouTube series and interactive storybook educating K-12 students on the importance of intellectual property (IP)

ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 24, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Second Avenue Learning and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the federal agency for granting U.S. patents and registering trademarks, today announced the expansion of instructional offerings on intellectual property and patents with a new YouTube series and interactive storybook. These free resources support EquIP HQ, a free invention education resource and contracted effort created and maintained by Second Avenue Learning, a trusted developer of game-based learning for education.

"Innovation is one of the greatest strengths of our nation's history. It's critical we provide equal opportunities for young people to better society by introducing invention education and IP literacy." Juan Valentin, Education Program Advisor of the USPTO

The upcoming animated video series follows two young inventors, their kooky friends and mentors as they traverse the process of invention and learn about intellectual property along the way. The same cast of characters are also featured in the interactive storybook that demonstrates how, with a little creativity and imagination, problems big and small can lead to opportunities for invention and innovation. Both of these new activities will be available in the fall of 2024.

"Innovation is one of the greatest strengths of our nation's history. It's critical we provide equal opportunities for young people to better society by introducing invention education and IP literacy," said Juan Valentin, Education Program Advisor of the USPTO. "The YouTube video series and interactive storybook empowers students with the skills to become inventors – and provides education about their natural right to protect and secure their original ideas."

The video series and interactive storybook follow the mission of EquIP HQ to reach as many students as possible – especially those who may be underrepresented or underprivileged – so they can improve today's modern inventions through their unique perspectives and ideas. In alignment with this mission, the White House recognized EquIP HQ as a recommended resource to support the STEMM Opportunity Alliance (SOA), a cross-sector initiative to propel our nation toward a more equitable science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) ecosystem.
