PARIS, October 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
On October 27, 2014,
Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister of
Rajasthan, inaugurated a new flat glass (float) production plant in
India, in the presence of François
Richier, French Ambassador to India, and Pierre-André de Chalendar, Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer of Saint-Gobain.
Located in Bhiwadi, near New
Delhi, in the State of Rajasthan, this line started
production in March 2014 following
more than three years of work and an investment totaling
140 million euros.
This float line covers a surface area of 27 acres and has an
annual production capacity of 300,000 metric tons of flat glass,
making it the largest of its kind in India. It is Saint-Gobain's fourth float line
in the country and it produces clear, tinted and solar control
glass essentially for the Indian construction and automotive
markets.
The construction site for this plant had an excellent safety
record. The site, which offers rainwater collection facilities and
showcases a number of environmental protection initiatives, clearly
demonstrates the Group's commitment to sustainable habitat. It
adopts the industrial excellence methods applied worldwide by the
Group.
With this new float glass plant in India, Saint-Gobain Glass is now present in
the south, west and north of the country, ensuring a long-term
geostrategic advantage for the company, which is positioned as the
flat glass leader in the region.
This investment is a milestone for Saint-Gobain in its
development strategy in high-growth countries.
