Epicor Software Corporation (NASDAQ: EPIC), a leading provider of
enterprise business software solutions for the midmarket and
divisions of Global 1000 companies, today announced that German toy
manufacturer Schleich has selected Epicor's next-generation
enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution. Using Epicor, Schleich
will integrate its international business processes, from ordering
to production and billing.
Schleich is one of the largest toy manufacturers in Germany and
a leading provider of original play concepts internationally. The
famous toy figurines from Schleich are sold in over 50 countries
and have found their way into children's rooms all around the
world. Headquartered with manufacturing facilities in
Schwäbisch-Gmünd, Schleich has production plants in Europe and
Asia, and another production facility in Tunisia.
"Our business is subject to several challenges, as the
production of children's toys worldwide is accompanied by strict
quality and safety regulations, which we often interpret narrower
than required by law," said Dr. Andreas Weber, head of operations
for Schleich. "We also need to provide high delivery reliability on
a global scale. The economics of Schleich are therefore a question
of precise coordination of production at home and abroad, including
procurement, logistics and quality control worldwide with the
incoming orders. Our ERP system thus has to work in real time and
offer us comprehensive insight into various business
processes."
The global reach of Epicor is important for Schleich. Dr. Weber
explained, "With Epicor we will be able to link our subsidiaries in
Europe, the USA and Asia on a single system and integrate the
processes consistently. Thanks to the tenancy of Epicor, each site
can be given the necessary functions through simple adjustments,
while we at the same time can obtain a good central overview of the
entire enterprise."
Schleich plans to replace all existing business applications
with Epicor. The main reason for selecting Epicor was the
flexibility of the software architecture, but also its ease-of-use.
"The Microsoft Office integration simplifies the usage for
employees and increases their acceptance -- an important aspect to
help accelerate the benefits of the new consolidated solution, and
results in greater productivity," said Dr. Weber. "For our future
development, it was essential to choose an open ERP solution. The
business architecture from Epicor provides the necessary
flexibility for an expansion with integrated middleware that
simplifies the connection to advanced features. No programming will
be required to adapt further to complex, changing processes,
minimizing maintenance efforts and reducing the overall operating
costs."
"Epicor's manufacturing product suite enables organizations to
completely integrate all their processes: customer management,
production and inventory control, purchasing and supply management
including finance, controlling and quality assurance," said Patrick
Nordling, vice president, sales, Epicor Germany. "The process
integration goes as far as the bar-code scanners. Such complete and
consistent collection and central storage of data is the foundation
for fast business decisions that can be made based on current, not
historic, information. This means that companies can react
immediately to changing market conditions and stay competitive even
in challenging environments."
About Schleich The company, founded 75
years ago by Friedrich Schleich in Schwäbisch Gmünd, is one of the
largest toy manufacturers in Germany and a leading provider of
original play concepts internationally. The famous toy figurines
from Schleich are sold in over 50 countries and have found their

with Swabian roots, today the company is majority owned by the
European investment group HgCapital. Other shareholders are the two
managing directors Paul Kraut and Erich Schefold. The design of the
Schleich play worlds and the creation of the production tools are
done in Germany, as are the quality and safety tests. The
production itself takes place both at the company's German
headquarters in Schwäbisch Gmünd and in other production facilities
abroad.
