Coca-Cola Canada Bottling Ltd. said Monday it closed on a deal to acquire Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada from Coca-Cola Co. (KO).

Coca-Cola Canada Bottling is a Canadian-based joint venture between businessman Larry Tanenbaum, and former NBA player Junior Bridgeman, owner of Kansas City-based Heartland Coca-Cola Bottling Co.

The company Monday named Todd Parsons as chief executive and Stephen du Toit chief operating officer.

Coca-Cola Canada Bottling said it is taking on 5,800 employees and assuming all Coca-Cola bottling and distribution operations across Canada. This includes a national network of more than 50 sales and distribution centres and five production facilities that were part of Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada.

Coca-Cola in March said the deal was the final step in refranchising all of Coca-Cola's company-owned bottling operations in North America.
