My subjective opinion not supported by data is that in the post gamestop era it has become much more common for momo stocks to run far higher than in the past. I'd attribute that to more hobby traders that have flowed in.

When I can no longer find shares to short that makes me very wary, since I look at the ability to short as a counterbalance against an irrational move in the stock. This morning IB ran out of shares of DRCT to borrow, and that ran all the way up from 55 cents yesterday to $5.50 today.
