MIDLAND, Mich., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Dow Corning was recently accepted as a member of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA). The CPCIA (http://www.cpcia.org/ ) has approximately 250 members, and is the leading business advocate on issues related to China's chemical and petroleum industrial development. As one of only a handful of foreign CPCIA members, Dow Corning expects its membership will strengthen exchange and collaboration with the Chinese government and other businesses in the region. "We're excited about our membership within the CPCIA, and the ability to work closer with government and other chemical companies in China," said Dow Corning Greater China Manager W.K. Ho. "Dow Corning also plans to leverage its membership to communicate and work with other industry leaders for its commitment to sustainable development in China." The CPCIA was converted from the former State Administration of Petroleum and Chemical Industries (SAPCI) in April of 2001 as the leading business advocate on issues related to China's chemical and petrochemical industrial development. The organization's objective is to ally forces of domestic industries and develop international cooperation to promote technological advancement. The CPCIA serves as a bridge between government and enterprises, and assists the government in industrial management. Dow Corning has fostered strong working relationships with China's chemical regulatory authorities since the early 1990s. The company has co- hosted business conferences and workshops in the region to share ideas and best practices with Chinese business, regulatory, and governmental leaders, such as the December 2004 Smart Innovation Conference jointly sponsored by Dow Corning and the CPCIA in Shanghai. Dow Corning (http://www.dowcorning.com/ ) provides performance-enhancing solutions to serve the diverse needs of more than 25,000 customers worldwide. A global leader in silicon-based technology and innovation, offering more than 7,000 products and services, Dow Corning is equally owned by The Dow Chemical Company and Corning, Incorporated. More than half of Dow Corning's annual sales are outside the United States.
