Rosen Law Firm Initiates Class Action
Investigation on Behalf of Purchasers of Lenovo Laptops Due to
Security Vulnerability Caused By Software Installed By
Lenovo
The Rosen Law Firm, P.A. announced today that it has initiated a
class action lawsuit investigation regarding a potential claims
against Lenovo Group Ltd. (OTC:LNVGY) arising from its installation
of adware/malware onto laptops sold to consumers from September
2014 through January 2015 (“Affected Computers”). The adware
exposes the computer user to serious security vulnerabilities that
could result in the theft of users’ login and passwords, and other
sensitive data that a user transmits online, as well as a degraded
internet experience caused by it downloading and injecting third
party ads and pop-up windows.
Below is additional information concerning the harm to consumers
and steps that you may want to take to protect yourself. If you
purchased an affected Lenovo computer, and would like to
participate in a class action lawsuit or discuss your rights at no
cost to you, please contact Phillip Kim, Esq. or Christopher
Hinton, Esq. of The Rosen Law Firm toll free at 866-767-3653 or via
e-mail at pkim@rosenlegal.com or chinton@rosenlegal.com.
According to recent reports, Lenovo began installing an adware
program called Superfish onto the laptop computers that it sold to
consumers beginning in September 2014 and continued through January
2015. Unbeknownst to consumers, the adware intercepted secure user
data and communications through a process that also exposed the
computer user to serious security vulnerabilities that could lead
to theft of user data such as passwords, credit card numbers and
other sensitive information. Commenting on Lenovo’s installation of
Superfish, the Electronic Frontier Foundation wrote that “Lenovo's
decision to ship this software was catastrophically irresponsible
and an utter abuse of the trust their customers placed in them. . .
. Lenovo has not just injected ads in a wildly inappropriate
manner, but engineered a massive security catastrophe for its
users.”
The affected Lenovo computers are as follows:

Security experts advise removing the software. Microsoft has
just released an update to its Microsoft Defender software (which
is available for most Windows platforms free of charge, and is
integrated as a standard feature in Windows 8 and 8.1 operating
systems, unless otherwise disabled by the user) which will remove
Superfish and the associated certificate creating the security
vulnerability. Alternatively, Lenovo has posted instructions for
uninstalling the Superfish software and its certificate. You can
find the instructions at
