Shengtai Pharmaceutical, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SGTI) announced on August 6, 2010 that Weifang Shengtai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd ("Weifang Shengtai"), its operating subsidiary in China, entered into an agreement with Kelun Pharmaceutical ("Kelun") to supply Kelun with 10 thousand tons of dextrose monohydrate injection grade: Kelun Guizhou will be supplied with 7 hundred tons and Kelun Sichuan with 9.3 thousand tons. The agreement is entered into at reasonable prices and will be carried out by prepayments.

According to the information available on Kelun's website, Kelun was founded in 1996 and has grown into a pharmaceutical group with 16 subsidiaries (branches). Kelun manufactures and sells drugs in 351 varieties of 16 types including IV solutions, and has the largest number of product varieties and packaging forms in the IV solution industry of China. Kelun is one of the largest manufacturers of IV solutions in the world and exports to markets overseas. In 2009, Kelun sold approximately 2.2 billion bottles (bags) of injection products in various kinds, and its revenue exceeded RMB 3.2 billion. Kelun's market share in China was 23.4% in 2009.

Weifang Shengtai is a leading producer of pharmaceutical injection-grade glucose in China. It has about 40% of the market and is one of the only 3 licensed manufacturers in China of injection grade dextrose monohydrate. Weifang Shengtai's supply agreement with Kelun represents the fact that Weifang Shengtai has won recognition, reputation and trust among quality customers in China. Weifang Shengtai continues to be committed to production of the series of glucose products, high-end glucose products, development of products, increase of production capacity and expansion into markets overseas. Weifang Shengtai's focus on high-end customers as well as targeting on overseas markets will help increase profitability.

SGTI - Golden Crossover....a few days ago 50DMA crossed north over 200DMA, typically a very good sign of things to come.

Good time to accumulate here

What is amazing about this stock is its shocking lack of liquidity. The CEO owns 40% and Pope Capital owns 10%, which leaves 9 million shares out there. Some are probably owned by other company insiders. The market makers have barely any shares. The price action today was scary, I had to get out at a small loss and wait for cheaper days. This is like owning lumber futures, no place to sell them if you need to escape without getting gouged.

there it goes! too bad i bot near 2/sh in 08. almost had a garage sale on this one, but sometimes these china pickers take awhile to mature.

anybody digest the current numbers? I am terrible with that stuff.

so they're looking at .15-.25 eps for fy 2010.

They have a conf. call today with replay which might address the GMP certification question...which is good and might explain the lower utilization of capacity.

If the GMP certification was really in Sept 2009, then that might mean they are now ramping up utilization. That could make the next quarter the big turn-around quarter.

Alright, i'll buy back into SGTI in the coming weeks. Gonna take awhile to accumulate though, this silly thing barely trades (laugh).

GMP certification was more likely in 2009 since it wasn't completed in 2008- so a typo there I guess.

The 30% utilization of capacity does seem low- haven't dug into the filing much yet though- so many others to pour over here still.

My first impression is that they're looking better than in the year ago q, which was what I was looking for to hold my position. As I look more closely at the filing I may (or may not) decide to add here.

Yes- they are highly leveraged. The alternateive would be dilution I suppose- so pick your poison, lol.

Did their new facility get GMP certified in Sept 2008 or 2009? It says 2008 in one paragraph but then 2009 a little later (In the same section).

Why are they running at like 30% of capacity in both their facilities? No wonder their margins are so bad! Is there just that little demand out there for their product? They claim a national distribution network, seems hard to believe.... God knows their debt interest is eating up almost half their net income!

I still own a few shares, more of a reminder so I don't forget the stock than anything else.

I'm looking for any sign of recovery so I can jump in before it moves much.

This is going to go one way or the other in a few weeks- $1and over, or .50 and under....and it all depends on their q1 earnings of course.

I think I'm probably the only one left here maybe...not that SGTI ever drew a big crowd to begin with.

So far it's holding up better than I expected.

I guess most SGTI shareholders are looking more long term as I am.

Not a turnaround yet.

I thought their last q would have been stronger...a lot stronger.

It's an ugly duckling right now, I agree.
But I like turn-around plays and this looks like a good one. I've just been buying a few on the bid here and there- I think after they report annual numbers in a few weeks it will look like a different company going forward. I'm still buying here- slowly.

yes, it's a concern.

They are highly leveraged with short term bank loans. Current ratio 0.5

They have almost no long term debt however, and so far they have managed to pay the short term bank loans with cash flow from operations and occasional approval from the banks to extend/renew the loans based on their hard assets.

That said, the highly leveraged place they're in is the price for their 100% expansion of capacity.

I guess I'd rather see them continue with a crappy balance sheet for another quarter or two and clean it up with cash flow operations than the alternative (dilution).

yeah that's just glucose, but i think a good ballpark estimate would be at least 60% top line growth for this going forward.

picker - any concern about the large current liabilities? Good to see this board picking up again...I used to trade SGTI too.

i dunno, giving guidance these days is taboo, but you're right... a lot of chinese companies are giving guidance because they're so ridiculously cheap.

Well, I suppose that's possible...but I'm not suggesting it at this point...too many variables nobody knows about here. Any guesstimate I make on earnings would be a shot in the dark.

That said, I'm pretty confident that earnings will be increasing rapidly in the next few quarters with the increased capacity from the new plant, higher margins (due to lower cost of corn/corn starch over last year), economic recovery and government health care spending stimulus.

They'll be reporting their 10-K in a few weeks at which time they'll probably provide some guidance for their fy 2010.
