Project Telecom establishes Network Services division; acquires web
development and design business to extend range of Internet services
WEDNESDAY, 13 December 2000 - Project Telecom plc, a leading independent
provider of telecommunications services, has established a new Network
Services division in a move to position the company to take advantage of the
rapidly growing demand for data products and services delivered via SMS, WAP
and the Internet. Initially the new division will focus on the corporate
sector and the increasing number of new entrants looking to offer branded
managed mobile services.
"The key to success as a virtual network operator is to focus on delivering to
customers bespoke solutions that add real value to their businesses," said
Project Telecom Chief Executive, Tim Radford. "Wireless industry commentators
are forecasting explosive growth in data traffic over the next few years. The
aim of establishing a Network Services division is to strengthen our
relationships with customers, in a rapidly changing market environment, by
developing tailored products and services they need and for which they are
prepared to pay."
Initially employing 25 people, the new division will be headed by Matthew
Gimlette (aged 40) who joined Project Telecom in September 2000 as Group
Network Services director from Tandberg Television where he was Vice President
of marketing. Prior to that he worked for News Digital Systems following 12
years in the UK and international mobile industry.
The Network Services division will focus on developing and delivering
network-independent services and applications for existing and potential
corporate customers of Project Telecom including small and medium size
enterprises. Services will also be developed for the retail sector looking to
operate as virtual network operators offering branded mobile services to
consumers. Product areas will include WAP and GPRS delivery and hosting
solutions, multi-media development and design, SMS and premium rate
information delivery, content aggregation, systems integration and value-added
telephony services.
Project Telecom has acquired Newark-based multi-media design and development
business, Moocow, for a consideration of #500,000 payable in cash, to enable
the Network Services division to provide the portal design and delivery
elements of its solutions. Founded in 1995, Moocow is a successful provider of
multi-media and web-based services with a strong client base that complements
that of Project Telecom.
Mr Gimlette said: "Moocow's design and delivery skills dovetail with Project
Telecom's strengths in mobile customer management, logistics and distribution
and will provide a key element of delivering complete solutions to our
customers."
Project Telecom will announce preliminary results for the year ending 31
December 2000 at the end of February 2001. Mr Radford commented: "The trading
picture is positive and we remain confident about our prospects. We have
continued to expand our client base and strengthen our existing customer
relationships through excellent service and by continuing to introduce
value-added products to the Project Telecom range."
