PMT's done well. It uses far less leverage than most, especially the garbage mREITs IHUBers usually buy. I don't like the sector primarily because mREITS tend to blow up in tough times. I guess they do provide some non-correlation with the type of things I own.

Sad that PMT's CEO, a former CPA, died from CV.

PennyMac Mortgage Investment Trust (PMT -0.4%) and PennyMac Financial Services (PFSI +1.4%) report that their founder and non-executive chairman, Stanford L. Kurland, died from complications related to COVID-19.

Kurland had also been battling brain cancer, the companies said.
He founded PennyMac in partnership with BlackRock Mortgage Partners and HC Partners in 2008. He served as chairman and CEO until 2016 when he became executive chairman.

In 2020, he retired from day-to-day responsibilities.
Kurland started his career in 1975 as a CPA for the firm now called Grant Thornton. He spent 27 years at Countrywide Financial until his departure in 2006.

"Mortgage REITs endured a very rough period during March. The index plunged by more than 50%. In April, we saw a resurgence as mortgage REITs rallied from incredibly large discounts to book value. In May, share prices have been relatively weak and opportunities have been growing again. We don't expect a full repeat of March and see a significant upside built into the sector already due to the low price-to-book ratios."

PennyMac Mortgage Investment Trust (NYSE: PMT) today reported net income attributable to common shareholders of $38.0 million, or $0.50 per common share on a diluted basis for the second quarter of 2019, on net investment income of $96.4 million. PMT previously announced a cash dividend for the second quarter of 2019 of $0.47 per common share of beneficial interest, which was declared on June 26, 2019 and paid on July 30, 2019 to common shareholders of record as of July 15, 2019.

PennyMac Mortgage Inv (NYSE:PMT) reported quarterly earnings of $0.68 per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $0.42 by 61.9 percent. This is a 94.29 percent increase over earnings of $0.35 per share from the same period last year. The company reported quarterly sales of $106.618 million which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $92.04 million by 15.84 percent.
