United Technologies Corp. will eliminate a layer of management
in its propulsion and aerospace systems segment as the head of the
unit steps down at the end of the month.
The changes follow a management shake-up following the abrupt
departure of Louis Chenevert as the company's chief executive late
last year, reportedly over complaints among directors and senior
managers that he was too disengaged from its operations.
United Technologies manufactures Pratt & Whitney jet
engines, Sikorsky helicopters, Otis elevators and Carrier air
conditioning units.
The Hartford, Conn.-based company said Thursday it will
eliminate its Propulsion & Aerospace Systems unit. Pratt &
Whitney and UTC Aerospace Systems, both formerly under the PAS
umbrella, will continue as stand-alone business units, the company
said.
Paul Adams, the head of Pratt & Whitney, and Dave Gitlin,
who headed the company's aircraft systems segment and has been
promoted to president of UTC Aerospace Systems, will report
directly to United Technologies Chief Executive Gregory Hayes.
Mike Dumais--who formerly led UTC Aerospace System's Power,
Controls & Sensing Systems segment, has been promoted to United
Technologies senior vice president for strategic planning. He will
also report to Mr. Hayes.
