Danish renewable-energy company Oersted AS said Monday that Salamander, a joint venture between Oersted, Simply Blue Group and Subsea 7 SA, has been awarded a Scottish floating wind lease.

Orsted said the 100 megawatt Salamander floating offshore wind project, located off the northeast coast of Scotland, is designed to provide Scotland and its supply chain with an early opportunity to deliver floating offshore wind ahead of the larger-scale ScotWind buildout.

"The [Crown Estate Scotland's] Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas leasing round was split into two pots--one for smaller-scale innovation projects of 100 megawatts or less and one for larger projects linked to oil-and-gas infrastructure. Salamander was successful in the innovation route," it said.

The project has a grid connection agreement with National Grid to enable the project to be delivered by 2030 and contribute to the U.K.'s 5 gigawatt floating wind target, it added.
