                        BriTel Property

                       Offer for Argent

BriTel Property announced on 7th August 1997 that once 
sufficient acceptances had been received, it intended to apply 
the statutory provisions to acquire compulsorily the remaining 
Argent Shares.  BriTel has now acquired or received acceptances 
in respect of over 93 per cent. in value of the shares to which 
the offer relates and notices under Section 429 of the Companies 
Act 1985 to the non-assenting Argent shareholders to commence 
the statutory procedures to acquire compulsorily the remaining 
Argent Shares will be despatched shortly.
