SÃO JOSÉ DOS CAMPOS, Brazil, Oct. 21, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Embraer (NYSE: ERJ; B3: EMBR3) delivered a total of 30 jets in the third quarter of 2021, of which nine were commercial aircraft and 21 were executive jets (14 light and seven large). As of September 30, the firm order backlog totaled USD 16.8 billion.
During 3Q21, in the executive aviation segment, Embraer delivered its 1,500th business jet. The milestone aircraft was a Phenom 300E, the best-selling light jet for nine years in a row, which was delivered to Haute Aviation, a Swiss company focused on charter, brokerage, and aircraft management.
In the commercial aviation segment, Embraer announced the sale of 16 new E175 jets to SkyWest, Inc. for operation in the Delta Air Lines network, adding to the 71 E175 jets SkyWest already operates for Delta. The E175 aircraft will fly for Delta under a Capacity Purchase Agreement (CPA). The value of the contract, which is included in Embraer's third quarter backlog, is USD 798.4 million, based on list price.
In the Services & Support segment, Embraer signed several contracts during the quarter. Porter Airlines signed a major aftermarket support package with Embraer for Porter's E2 fleet of commercial aircraft, for up to 20 years. Embraer also signed a Pool Program agreement with CommutAir, a United Express carrier, to support the airline's ERJ 145 jet fleet, and an extension for Pool Program with Cobham, in Australia, to support its three E190s. Also, in Australia, Embraer signed a services agreement with Alliance Airlines, which will provide materials support for the carrier's fleet of E190s.

Embraer’s Eve and Helipass partner to expand UAM operations in France and beyond.
Melbourne, Florida, September 20, 2021 – Eve Urban Air Mobility Solutions and Helipass, SAS, today announced a new collaboration to accelerate and deploy electrical vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, also known in the market as EVA (Electrical Vertical Aircraft), across France and Europe. The partnership aims to fly Eve’s electric aircraft for a total of 50,000 flight hours per year. This could lead to an optional increase of 100,000 annual flight hours across Helipass’ network.
Helipass plans to open digital bookings on its platform to offer an innovative and seamless user experience to customers throughout its network. To support the expansion of this partnership, Eve will work with Helipass to develop training, on-site support, and technical publications to facilitate the launch of EVA commercial operations.
Following the commercial introduction of the EVA, which is planned for 2026, both companies will endeavor to launch Eve’s EVA aircraft across Helipass’ markets. These flights will include sightseeing, city and airport transfers, as well as a growing on-demand service.

The Total Support Program (TSP) agreement includes airframe heavy maintenance checks, technical solutions, and access to the Pool Program, which includes component exchanges and repair services for hundreds of reparable items for Porter’s E2 fleet of commercial aircraft, for up to 20 years. Currently, the Pool Program supports more than 50 airlines worldwide.

What happened
Shares of Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer (NYSE:ERJ) were up 14% for the week as of Thursday afternoon on talk the company was near a deal to merge its air taxi business with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC).
So what
Investors have been waiting for Embraer's next move for more than a year now following an April 2020 decision by Boeing to walk away from a $4 billion deal to take control of Embraer's commercial operations. Embraer's commercial aerospace operation has some good products, but the company's diminutive size has made competing against titans like Boeing and Airbus difficult, and the proposed deal looked like a good option to solve a lot of what ailed Embraer.
The company continues to consider options for various businesses, and it appears it might have found a partner for its Eve Urban Air Mobility operation. Bloomberg reported late Wednesday that Embraer was in talks to merge Eve into Zanite Acquisition, a SPAC, in a deal that could value the combination at about $2 billion.
Embraer confirmed talks were ongoing.
Eve is developing an electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, a class of aircraft that somewhat resembles a blend between an automobile and helicopter. Last week, the unit crossed a major milestone, announcing an order of 200 of its aircraft by Halo Aviation, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2026.
If Eve merges with Zanite, it would follow in the footsteps of Joby Aviation, a rival flying taxi start-up with a pending deal to merge with SPAC Reinvent Technology Partners.
Now what
Embraer shares have staged an impressive rally from their 2020 lows when the stock was down more than 75% on the fallout from the pandemic and Boeing's decision to walk away. But even after the recent run-up, the stock is still trading 20% below where it was at the beginning of 2020.
It will be interesting to see how the potential deal with Zanite is structured and how much, if any, exposure to the potential upside Embraer keeps as part of an agreement. The company's core commercial aerospace business -- its line of small, fuel-efficient passenger aircraft -- could still use a partner to help boost international sales. But investors this week were excited by the opportunity to find a partner for Eve.

Embraer Launches an Electric Airplane Business
Brazilian airplane manufacturer Embraer (NYSE:ERJ) shook up the air travel industry this morning by announcing it has formed an independent company called Eve Urban Air Mobility Solutions. The company said Eve will develop electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for use as air taxis, and that it's already found a buyer for 200 of them.
On Tuesday, Embraer and Halo -- a provider of helicopter travel services in the United States and the United Kingdom -- agreed to form a partnership. Eve will produce the eVTOL air taxis, Halo will acquire and operate 200 of them, and the two companies will collaborate on continued development of Eve's Urban Air Traffic Management system as well as fleet operations.
Halo will thus become the first customer for Eve's new product, with deliveries expected to begin by 2026. Halo will operate 100 of the electric aircraft in the U.S., and another 100 in the U.K.
The companies added that Halo is the brand name of the service, a joint effort by Halo Aviation in Britain and Associated Aircraft Group in the U.S. According to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence, both helicopter-transportation companies are private, and both share privately owned OneSky Network as their parent company.
According to all companies involved, creation of this partnership will make Eve -- and by extension Embraer -- a global leader in eVTOL aircraft.

Terms of the deal could change and as with all transactions that aren’t finalized, talks could fall apart. Zanite declined to comment, and an Embraer representative didn’t immediately have a comment.
Zanite is led by co-Chief Executive Officers Kenn Ricci, co-owner of Directional Aviation Capital, which controls private-jet flight provider Flexjet, and Steve Rosen, co-founder of private equity firm Resilience Capital Partners. The Cleveland-based SPAC raised $230 million in a November initial public offering.
Embraer’s American depositary receipts surged 5.7% to $14.41 in early trading at 8:58 a.m. in New York.
Ricci, the founder of several private-jet companies, bought Flexjet from transportation firm Bombardier Inc. in 2013. The company sells partial ownerships in its fleet of business aircraft, enabling members to fly privately without having to buy planes outright, and competes against NetJets, owned by Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
Eve Urban Air Mobility makes eVTOLs, which have been dubbed flying taxis. Led by CEO Andre Stein, the company this week struck a partnership with Helisul Aviation, a Brazilian helicopter operator, that involves an order of as many as 50 eVTOLs, with deliveries slated to begin in 2026.
“Disruptive urban air mobility solutions can bring same type of benefits that aviation already brought to longer trips literally closer to people, giving urban commuters more options to move around the city,” Stein said in a statement announcing the partnership.
Last week, Eve said it struck a partnership with Halo Aviation Ltd., a helicopter travel provider in the U.S. and U.K., which features an order for 200 of Eve’s eVTOL aircraft with delivery commencing in 2026. Halo is part of Ricci’s Directional Aviation.
Other eVTOL companies including Joby Aviation, Lilium GmbH and Archer Aviation Inc. have agreed to go public through SPAC mergers.
Blade Air Mobility Inc., a provider of short-distance flights, went public last month after merging with a SPAC. The company, which has ordered eVTOLs, has said it intends to transition to electric vertical aircraft from conventional helicopters, citing a reduced carbon footprint, less noise and lower operating costs.
