CVC Capital Partners has hired Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS) to sell Dutch supermarket chain C1000, people familiar with the situation told Dow Jones Newswires on Wednesday.

C1000, with over 400 stores, is the number two supermarket chain in the Netherlands after Koninklijke Ahold NV (AH.AE). Its revenue in 2010 was around EUR3.7 billion.

The business is valued around EUR1 billion and is likely to attract both local and international buyers. Dutch rivals Plus and Sligro Food Group NV (SLIGR.AE) have confirmed to Dow Jones Newswires they are interested in all or part of C1000, and Ahold will likely consider buying some stores although its dominant position will preclude it from bidding for the whole company, the people added.

French giant Carrefour SA (CA.FR) is also reported to be interested.

Goldman Sachs has yet to launch the formal process.

CVC bought C1000 for around EUR695 million in 2008.
