Ericsson expands commercial LMDS network of Nordic operator EITeIe
Ericsson has won a second LMDS contract with ElTele to expand the Nordic
operator's fixed wireless broadband access network in Oslo and other major
Norwegian cities. Deliveries and installations, as well as a part of the
commercial operation are already being carried out.
"Our experience confirms that Ericsson has the best wireless broadband
access system on the market," said EITele CEO, Per Morten Torvildsen. "We
see this not only in terms of services that we can offer our customers,
but equally important, during the build out phase, the best coverage,
delivery capacity, flexibility and simplicity to deploy. Interest for our
services is now coming from enterprises that are eager to get broadband
services, as well as from government and regional communities throughout
the region. All see the benefits and reliability offered by our radio
solution."
"This new contract is a confirmation of our strategy to focus on broadband
services and to build strong partnerships with operators so that they can
rapidly launch services. It also shows the benefits an operator gets in
using a stable system that is available for volume delivery," said Mikael
Backstrom, Vice President at Ericsson Microwave Systems. "Our MINI-LINK
BAS system is highly industrialized and enables rapid installations of new
hubs and base stations so that operators can add new customers, literally,
within hours."

About MINI-LINK BAS
Ericsson's LMDS solution, MINI-LINK BAS, is the world's first true
broadband wireless access system using point-to-multipoint microwave. It
addresses the last mile access market as a rapid and cost effective
broadband alternative to fiber. Bridging wireline and wireless networks,
it carries bandwidth-hungry IP services - such as high-speed Internet,
VPN, LAN-LAN interconnection and high quality video conferencing - with
dedicated, or dynamically allocated capacity. The capacity can
instantaneously be allocated wherever needed - on demand - with peak rates
up to 37 Mbps, a prerequisite for successful deployment of new services
and efficient use of bandwidth.
This is further combined with guaranteed capacities and leased line
services as for PBX's and traditional GSM base-stations. It is ideal also
for mobile backhaul applications in GPRS and 3G networks, where the
possibility to dynamically allocate very high capacity (2-30 Mbps) between
base stations becomes a key advantage.
MINI-LINK BAS operates at LMDS frequencies between 24 and 31 GHz.
