More than 2,700 consumer-technology exhibitors have gathered in Las Vegas this week to tout the latest consumer-electronics products. The 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show, the industry's largest trade show, runs through Sunday.

Here are some of the products unveiled and major announcements made by publicly traded companies Thursday:

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) -- The company will release the "Dragon" platform technology for desktop PCs with the AMD Phenom II X4 processor. The HD technology can be transferred to and from mobile devices. HP, Dell and Alienware plan to be able to support Dragon platform technology on their systems in the first quarter; Dell will offer immediate availability on its Dell XPS line.

AT&T Inc. (ATT) -- The company and RaySat Broadcasting Corp. debuted AT&T CruiseCast, a total in-car entertainment service that will enable families, commuters and mobile professionals to watch a lineup of 22 satellite video channels anywhere in the country. AT&T CruiseCast uses a compact, low-profile antenna for use on cars, trucks and SUVs, and technology that overcomes obstacles such as overpasses, buildings, trees or tunnels.

Corel Corp. (CREL, CRE.T) -- Acer will bundle Corel WinDVD, Corel's video and DVD playback software, with its TravelMate commercial notebooks and eMachines consumer notebooks. Users of all skill levels will be able to easily play back and enjoy standard-definition videos and DVDs.

CSR PLC (CSR.LN) -- The company and Unify4Life said they have partnered to develop a lifestyle application for Blackberry smartphones from Research In Motion Ltd. (RIMM). The Unify3Life AV/Shadow uses CSR's BlueCore5-Multimedia silicon to transform a BlackBerry smartphone into a universal remote control to manage various electronic devices around the home from DVD players, sound systems and TVs to garage doors, iPods and lights.

CyberLink Corp. (5203.TW) -- The company will demonstrate the latest multi-touch optimized version of PowerCinema running on Windows 7 Beta. The company's all-in-one digital home entertainment system provides a way to access and enjoy photos, videos, music and television.

CyberLink has been working closely with Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) to support many of the advanced capabilities of Windows 7.

Dell Inc. (DELL) -- The company unveiled a USB digital TV tuner that allows individuals to watch TV on the Inspiron Mini. Dell will offer region-specific versions, designed to receive broadcast standards. Dell expects the tuner to be available later this quarter, first in Europe, followed by North America and Asia-Pacific and China.

The company launched the Dell XPS 625 gaming desktop, featuring support for AMD platform technology, code-named "Dragon." The Dell XPS 625 desktop will be available today starting at $999.

The company unveiled the Dell Studio XPS 16 and Dell Studio XPS 13 laptops. Both the Dell Studio XPS 16 and Dell Studio XPS 13 feature genuine leather and anodized aluminum accents on top of a high-gloss Obsidian Black finish. The laptops are available starting at $1,199.

EchoStar Corp. (SATS) -- The company's EchoStar Technologies LLC unit introduced the EchoStar SlingLoaded 922 HD DVR, a high-definition digital video recorder that incorporates Sling Media's patented place-shifting technology.

The company's Sling Media Inc. unit unveiled SlingGuide, a new Web-based way to find, watch and record your favorite television programming from anywhere. SlingGuide allows consumers to browse, search and record programs on their DVR from any PC, Macintosh or compatible mobile phone.

Ebay Inc.'s (EBAY) Skype unit updated its communications software for use on mobile phones running Google Inc.'s (GOOG) Android operating system, as well as other phones using Sun Microsystems Inc.'s (JAVA) JAVA display technology. Separately, in collaboration with Intel Corp., (INTC) Skype also released the first version of its communication software to run on so-called Mobile Internet Devices. The software supports both audio and video communication capability. Mobile Internet Devices, larger than a mobile phone but smaller than a laptop, have 4-inch to 7-inch screens and WiFi and wireless broadband connectivity. The Skype interface for MIDs uses a specially optimized interface and enables users to make free Skype-to-Skype voice and video calls anywhere in the world.

Hauppage Digital Inc. (HAUP) -- The company unveiled WinTV v7, a major new version of their WinTV application. WinTV v7 was designed to be used by the new generation of digital TV tuners for PCs and has features for digital TV not previously available.

Separately, the company said its HD PVR now has direct recording support for digital audio and for the high-definition format used by the Sony PlayStation 3. HD PVR is a high-definition video recorder for PCs and Macs.

IRobot Corp. (IRBT) -- The company unveiled the second generation iRobot Looj Gutter Cleaning Robot. The Looj, which reduces ladder work and dangerous over-reaching, has new features that help it break up clogged leaves and debris faster and improve overall performance.

Macrovision Solutions Corp. (MVSN) -- The company demonstrated a new capability that brings the integration and delivery of digital content to Internet-connected televisions through Macrovision's consumer electronics Interactive Program Guide. In the demonstration, select CBS content, including episodes from the CSI drama, was accessed directly from Macrovision's CE IPG.

Mattel Inc. (MAT) -- The company will change its online strategy to provide interactive programming and content. The new system, called the Mattel Digital Network, invites kids to play online and allows the company observe how they play. Users will have access to brands such as Barbie, Hot Wheels, Matchbox and Radica.

NEC Electronics Corp. (6723.TO) -- The company's NEC Electronics America Inc. unit unveiled prototype devices based on the USB 3.0 specification, which was announced by the USB Implementers Forum last November. NEC Electronics' USB 3.0 prototype devices will support data transfer speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 transfer speeds.

Samsung Electronics Co. (005930.SE) -- The company's S3C6410 application processor is the power driving Navico's new line of Lowrance-branded HDS high-definition combination chartplotter and fishfinder marine GPS devices.

The company and Chumby teamed up to provide a reference design built on Samsung's S3C6410 application processor for Internet-connected digital photo frames. The new reference design provides developers with Web-connected digital photo frames that offer drag-and-drop photo and video sharing, social networks, multimedia messaging, games, and more.

Samsung Electronics America also teamed up with Teradici Corp. for personal computer-over-Internet Protocol display technology using Samsung's 930ND LCD monitory. The new technology enables computers and workstations to be managed centrally yet still provide a full desktop experience for end users, removing the need for a local terminal.

Sharper Image Corp. (SHRPQ) -- The company's licensee SI Products will unveil new home products ranging from iPod-compatible bedside stereo systems to wireless audio components and stress-relieving sound soothers. The Sharper Image Home Audio product line will begin shipping in the third quarter.

Sigma Designs Inc. (SIGM) -- The company will release its CoAir Ethernet-to-Coax Bridge Adapter. The design is based on Sigma's CoAir Ultra Wideband chipset. Lung Hwa Electronics Co. (2424.TW) will offer the adapter to consumer electronics manufacturers. The adapter enables in-room video streaming, and can be connected to home appliances and PCs with an Ethernet connection.

Silicon Image Inc. (SIMG) -- The company showcased its LiquidHD Personal Entertainment technology, a technology designed to connect TVs, consumer electronics devices, personal computers, portable media devices and home theaters into a seamless network. It also introduced LiquidPlay Content Protection technology -- a new digital security technology, and the Sil6100 HD display processor -- a device supporting the Silicon Image LiquidHD technology.

Staples Inc. (SPLS) -- The office products company launched a new line of shredders that will hit store shelves next month. This line was created through a partnership with TTI Co. The features include new technologies, shredder sizes, shred types, safety and design.

Visteon Corp. (VC) -- The company and Boston Acoustics deliver refined performance in the audio system that accents the redesigned 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. The two companies have engineered an audio system for the 2010 Camaro, starting with precision speaker design.
