(AMEX:PNO), a leading provider of IP video gateway products that enable transmission of broadcast-quality video over IP networks, today released its first IP video monitoring application; Diagnostic, Analysis and Stream Health (DASH). The DASH application supports quality assurance initiatives for broadcast-quality IP video transport by detecting problems with the video streams intrinsic during transport over packet-based networks. When employed with the Path 1 Vx8000 IP video gateway, the integrated technologies work seamlessly to detect and correct errors such as IP network jitter, packet loss, excessive latency, out-of-order packets and other visible disruptions that impair the performance of the video service and adversely affect the viewer experience. Upon pinpointing the origin and type of error, Path 1's IP video gateways can be used to apply Pro-MPEG Code of Practice (COP 3) standards-compliant techniques for forward error correction (FEC) to rectify problems and preserve the quality of the video signal. DASH is the first of several monitoring and video quality assurance solutions that Path 1 plans to introduce this year. These tools and applications will allow network operators such as telcos, carriers, mobile and satellite providers who transport IP video over private and public networks to pinpoint performance problems and correct those problems quickly. As a result, network operators can accelerate IP video deployments with confidence and sustain greater profitability and cost savings from IP-based services while still meeting stringent service level agreements (SLA). Installed near routers and switches, this lightweight monitoring system captures real-time and accurate data to measure and monitor delivery quality and media transport performance. The data can also be used by administrators to set the appropriate levels of FEC in the IP video gateways. The Path 1 DASH application runs on any PC connected to the customer's video network. SNMP transactions are used to obtain information about the video streams from the Path 1 gateway devices. This information can also be easily imported into generic network management systems (NMS). Multiple devices can be monitored simultaneously and the rate of data collection is configurable according to customer preference. DASH's flexible user interface can be customized to present the telemetry in either tabular or graphical formats for ease of use. The Path 1 DASH application will be available in October.
