FTSE 100 Rises as Imperial Brands, Diageo Gain
0814 GMT - The FTSE 100 Index rises 0.3%, or 21 points to 7073,
with gains for Imperial Brands and Diageo offsetting losses for oil
and utility stocks. Imperial shares rise 5% after the tobacco group
announced a share-buyback program of up to one billion pounds
($1.13 billion) and said its performance in the year ended Sept. 30
matched expectations. Meanwhile, Diageo advances 0.4% after the
spirits group reported a good start to fiscal 2023 and said it
remains well-positioned to achieve its medium-term guidance despite
a tough outlook. Still, oil stocks BP and Shell drop even as the
price of Brent crude rises 0.7% to $93.99 a barrel, while utilities
Centrica, National Grid and SSE also fall.
