Intrado Inc. (NASDAQ:TRDO), a global provider of integrated data
and telecommunications solutions, today announced that its 9-1-1
Integration Lab will be available as an industry resource for 9-1-1
technology suppliers and the public safety community to conduct
comprehensive testing and integration. The facility provides a
technology platform and processes designed to speed the
introduction of next-generation 9-1-1 functionality with the
existing 9-1-1 operating environment in an evolutionary and
non-disruptive way. The lab environment is based on the Intrado
Intelligent Emergency Network(TM) (IEN), Intrado's next-generation,
IP-based, emergency communications services platform. Built on an
open ATIS-approved standards architecture with a hardened, secure,
and technology-neutral operating platform, the Intrado lab will
streamline validation of new 9-1-1 services and allow them to
proliferate more quickly without compromising the integrity of the
9-1-1 network. A full array of call-handling and computer-aided
dispatch (CAD) equipment mirroring today's typical public safety
answering point (PSAP) operating environment will be available --
critical to ensure real-world operational efficacy. Participants
will have the opportunity to rigorously test new features under the
scrutiny of formalized peer review procedures via simulated
real-world scenarios such as selective transfer with multi-media
data sharing, context-sensitive call queuing, VoIP E9-1-1
auto-location technologies, Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) and
Automatic Crash Notification (ACN). The features will be tested for
interoperability with both legacy and next-generation 9-1-1
operating environments. Upon completion of successful testing, the
feature or service will be "IEN verified," meaning that it
successfully interoperates with a live IEN-based 9-1-1 system for
call handling and data delivery. "New 9-1-1 technologies and
services must meet public safety's rigorous standards for
reliability, security, and availability," said Stephen Meer,
Intrado co-founder and chief technology officer. "Extending our
integration lab to support these new technologies and services will
help our customers and partners ensure these standards are met
before new 9-1-1 capabilities are introduced into live networks."
Intrado also announced its IEN Connect program, an alliance program
developed to encourage and facilitate collaboration among leading
public safety technology providers. The IEN Connect program
accelerates the delivery of verified next-generation 9-1-1
solutions that meet the stringent requirements of public safety.
IEN Connect is open to switch providers, hardware providers,
location service providers, customer premises equipment providers,
broadband service providers, application providers and data
providers. Program elements include integration of the emergency
services messaging interface (ESMI), an ATIS-approved XML standard
for data sharing; the emergency information services interface
(EISI), an XML interface for data content providers; verification
testing, test lab facilities, human factors modeling; and market
education programs. Technology providers interested in joining the
IEN Connect program can visit Intrado online at
