ERA Carbon Offsets Ltd. (TSX VENTURE: ESR), through its 100% owned
subsidiary ERA Ecosystem Restoration Associates Inc.(ERA), is
pleased to announce that the Denman Island Land Conservation
Project, which produces carbon offsets for the voluntary carbon
market, has been recognized with the Premier's Award for Innovation
and Excellence.
The annual Premier's Awards honour the best in British
Columbia's Public Service, recognizing the work of B.C.'s public
service employees and teams who make positive contributions to this
province. This year, 26 finalists were short-listed in a variety of
sectors and 8 winners across the various service areas were chosen.
British Columbia Premier Christy Clark handed out the awards at the
7th Annual Premier's Awards ceremony in Victoria.
ERA's Denman Island Conservation Project was recognized as an
Innovation for the Ministry of Environment(MOE). For the first time
in the history of the province, the MOE accommodated and used
carbon offsets as a means to raise the capital needed to ensure
this valuable piece of land was secured, placed under conservation,
and transferred to the BC provincial park system, allowing for the
creation of the largest provincial park on Denman Island.
Dr. Robert Falls, ERA's Chairman, commented: "It was a great
pleasure to accept this award with the visionaries from all the
participating organizations that worked to make this project
happen. The Ministry of Environment and BC Parks deserve special
recognition for embracing such innovation and working through a
very complicated process. North Denman Lands deserves kudos for
their dedication and perseverance as a key participant, as does the
Islands Trust Board for their support. Finally, we thank the Forest
Carbon Group AG for supporting the project in the marketplace by
purchasing the offsets created from Denman Island. This was a team
effort and is further proof that BC is indeed an innovative leader
within the green economy."
Robert Falls, Ph.D., R.P.Bio., Chairman
