Virtual Ed Link, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: VRED) -- Dr. Alan McCartney, COO
of Virtual Ed Link, announced today that the Virtual Ed Link Portal
will provide Roselle parents with real-time security updates in the
event of emergency situations. The portal application will be
publicly unveiled Thursday, September 24, at 11 a.m. in Roselle
will be New Jersey's first interactive Safety and Security
Management System (SSMS) for schools.
The web-based SSMS portal will enable Roselle school officials
to alert parents of emergencies and other important events, such as
school closings, via email, voicemail, text message, Blackberry PIN
and other mobile device messages. The portal homepage will also
host valuable educational tools for parents, such as an interactive
swine flu prevention and safety course.
The event will be held at L.V. Moore Middle School, 720 Locust
Street. It will include a demonstration of the brand new SSMS's
capabilities and an information session on how Roselle Public
Schools will use the system to enhance the safety and security of
its students.
"The SSMS portal will provide the Roselle School District with
an efficient system for communicating important safety information
to parents," said Virtual Ed Link President and CEO John Bay. "It
will also act as an interactive resource for educating parents,
students and teachers on vital public safety issues, such as
bullying, hazing, school security and the H1N1 pandemic."
The SSMS will be updated in real time, so school officials and
public safety officials can alert parents of emergencies
immediately. The SSMS will also be used to alert parents of school
closings. School officials can even alert parents about road
closings and traffic jams if they so choose. A physical security
management section of the portal gives authorized security
personnel the ability to view security cameras and control access
to each school building.
The security portal's educational resources are customizable.
Training sessions on local safety issues, such as crossing a busy
intersection on the way to school, can be easily developed. The
training sessions contain video content and text, but also offer
supporting resources such as a glossary of important terms, an
outline of lesson objectives and safety tips.
"This new Safety and Security Management System brings us to the
forefront of New Jersey in terms of school safety and
communication," said Roselle Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Elnardo
J. Webster. "The school safety portal will provide us with an
effective security management system and parents with peace of mind
knowing their child is in a safe environment at school."
Virtual Ed Link has installed SSMS portal at the Albany-based
Northeastern Regional Information Center (NERIC). The NERIC will
make that portal available to multiple schools in New York State.
The Roselle portal will be the first of its kind in New Jersey.
