Company Now Exploring 25 Gig Speeds

Metronet was named America’s “Fastest Major ISP” by PCMag for 2024, the second year in a row. According to PCMag’s recently released report, Metronet was ranked the fastest overall ISP in the nation with a score of 340.5 on the PCMag Speed Index.

“Metronet customers enjoy the fastest speeds in the country because we have invested so heavily in our state-of-the-art infrastructure,” said Craig Cowden, Metronet’s Chief Product and Technology Officer. “But we’re not stopping there. While our residential customers now have access to symmetrical 5 gig speeds, our technology roadmap calls for a 25 Gig platform that will support even higher symmetrical speeds. We can’t wait to see what our customers do with these blindingly fast speeds.”

Metronet provides 100% fiber-optic internet service to more than 300 communities in 17 states. Beyond its fast speeds, Metronet’s networks are constructed with a focus on uptime and resiliency, using multiple rings that provide a level of redundancy not often seen from fiber-to-the-home providers.

“Metronet’s fiber network is truly carrier class,” continued Cowden. “Our standard market architecture includes core and access fiber rings each connected with at least two egress points, designed so there’s no single point of failure -- either physical or logical. To further improve reliability, we also extend this ringed architecture deeper into the access network than our fiber competitors can typically justify. This allows Metronet to survive individual fiber cuts and network element failure with no or limited impact to our customers.”

Metronet has scaled to become the nation’s largest independent fiber-to-the-home provider, serving communities that include Lexington, Des Moines, Norfolk, Tallahassee and Colorado Springs.
