CompuMed, Inc. (Pink Sheets:CMPD)
www.compumed.net, a
telemedicine and
medical informatics company, is providing its
CardioGram™
electrocardiogram (ECG) remote
interpretation systems and over-read services for the New York
State Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS) at selected
juvenile justice facilities throughout the State.
Maurizio Vecchione, CompuMed's CEO said, "We are pleased to
partner with OCFS to help support its vision of cardiac screening
and safety for patients. This program helps improve the health of
patients while ensuring facilities recognize at-risk children who
are particularly vulnerable." He added that CompuMed's services use
telemedicine to bring certain pediatric cardiac care screenings
with pediatric cardiologist oversight in a cost effective
manner.
Eric Larsen, CompuMed's senior vice president and general
manager of Telecardiology, said, "We have steadily expanded our
reach in providing telecardiology services to institutional
patients. Our evolution into pediatric cardiology stems from
30 years of experience in providing such services to adults. Our
services can increase the quality of care through telemedicine for
juvenile justice facilities."
Michael D. Cohen, medical director for the OCFS, said, "We are
always looking for new and innovative ways to provide the best
possible medical services for those in our care. Bringing
board-certified cardiologists into our facility using telemedicine
enables us to use technology to monitor individuals who are on
psychotropic medications. We believe that maintaining an effective
cardiac screening program under the supervision of pediatric
cardiologists is an important element in the quality of care for
our patients, as well as an important risk management strategy for
our facilities."
