Technology stocks edged up Friday, as the Nasdaq Composite Index
got back on track to scoring a third straight week of gains.
The Nasdaq (RIXF) held on firmly to a 0.3% gain at 1,990 at last
check. The tech-heavy index briefly topped the 2,000 level Thursday
for the first time since October, and is also poised to end July
with an 8% gain.
The Morgan Stanley High Tech 35 Index (MSH) and the Philadelphia
Semiconductor Index (SOX) each rose about 1%.
The sector took a hit from a decline in shares of NetSuite Inc.
(N), which was off more than 10% after reporting a bigger
second-quarter loss.
Major tech players posted gains, including Oracle Corp. (ORCL),
Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
Decliners included Yahoo Inc. (YHOO), eBay Inc. (EBAY) and Sun
Microsystems (JAVA).
