Randgold Resources Ltd. (GOLD) Monday said it is selling its interest in the Kiaka gold project in Burkina Faso to Volta Resources Inc (VTR.T) for cash and shares in the Toronto-listed miner.

Volta will pay C$4 million in cash and 20 million shares in Volta.

Randgold sold the stake in the Burkina Faso project as it looks to develop other resources. Last week Randgold completed the acquisition of Moto Goldmines and said it plans to move swiftly to develop the Congo gold mine.

The Moto gold project is one of the largest undeveloped gold deposits in Africa but faces technical challenges.

Randgold said probable mineral reserves are 5.5 million ounces and production could reach 2.4 million ounces of gold in the project's first five years.
