                NIPPON SHEET GLASS: Response to press speculation


Nippon Sheet Glass ("NSG") notes recent press speculation regarding its
intention to acquire UK glassmaker, Pilkington Plc. NSG confirms that a decision
on whether to proceed with an acquisition of Pilkington has not been made. NSG
is aware of its disclosure obligations and will communicate any material
developments with regard to its discussions with Pilkington, without delay.
