Featherlite, Inc. (Nasdaq:FTHR) has built a 53-foot mobile medical
education lab for Wright Medical Technology, Inc. The unit was
created for Wright Medical to travel across the country where it
will provide more accessible procedure and product training to
surgeons at medical facilities, as well as those attending medical
conventions and meetings. Wright Medical Technology, Inc.,
headquartered in Arlington, Tenn., is a global orthopedic medical
device company specializing in the design, manufacturing and
marketing of reconstructive joint devices and biologics. Wright's
products include large joint implants for the hip and knee,
extremity implants for the hand, elbow, shoulder, foot and ankle
and both synthetic and tissue-based bone graft substitute
materials. Featherlite is a leading manufacturer of custom trailers
for mobile medical, emergency response, education, business, sport,
vending and recreational purposes. The Wright Medical mobile lab is
designed to serve both new and existing clients. Full training and
product demonstrations can be conducted on site, eliminating the
need for travel that can often be inconvenient and difficult to
schedule. "Surgical training is a key component of service to our
customers, yet it is sometimes inconvenient for surgeons who must
take time away from their practices for travel and training," Eric
Stookey, Vice President of U.S. Sales at Wright Medical, said.
"With the new mobile lab, Wright will bring these important
training sessions directly to them, making it more convenient for
them to expand their surgical experience with our products."
Completely self-contained, the Wright Medical trailer is equipped
with three slide-outs that expand the lab space to 550 square feet.
It includes six separate cadaveric or saw bone stations and a
conference room. The trailer has integrated audio and visual
capabilities. A support trailer will accompany the mobile medical
lab to transport supplies. The mobile medical lab debuted in San
Antonio, Texas, on September 22-24, 2005, at the annual meeting of
the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. The next scheduled
visits include San Diego, Calif., Dallas, Texas, Chicago, Ill.,
Philadelphia, Pa., and Orlando, Florida. "Over 35 surgeons
participated in the mobile lab's first training sessions in San
Antonio on September 22-24, and the sessions went very well," Mike
Smith, Sr. Manager in the Medical Education department, said.
"Surgeons who attended seemed very impressed with the new lab, and
some even commented that our mobile facility rivaled some operating
rooms they had worked in." Featherlite Director of Marketing Dave
Ferdon said, "Featherlite specialty trailers can truly take any
organization or company's operations on the road to their clients.
Featherlite is excited to see Wright Medical experience positive
results from their custom designed medical laboratory trailer." In
addition to mobile medical laboratories, Featherlite designs and
manufactures mobile marketing, communication and command centers,
recruiting, museum, training and other trailers. For more
