Central Washington Hospital recently completed its deployment of Lawson Software (Nasdaq: LWSN) applications, including the Lawson S3 Enterprise Financial Management and Supply Chain Management suites, to help better track supplies and inventory, improve vendor management and reduce payment errors stemming from paper-based processes. Central Washington Hospital completed the deployment on time and within its initial project budget. Central Washington Hospital has 1,400 employees and operates a licensed, 206-bed acute care hospital delivering a full range of healthcare services in Wenatchee, Wash. and the north-central Washington region. Services include inpatient and outpatient surgery; a cardiac surgery program; coronary and intensive care; respiratory care; oncology; dialysis; a neonatal nursery; home health and hospice; a regional trauma emergency department; and skilled nursing and rehabilitative services such as cardio-pulmonary, physical, speech, and occupational therapies. The hospital also operates four physician clinics, including a family medicine group, an internal medicine group, a womens health practice and an orthopedic surgery group. For many healthcare organizations, installing new business software on time and within budget is the exception, not the rule, said Steve Jacobs, chief financial officer, Central Washington Hospital. We were able to accomplish this with the joint efforts of Lawson and Central Washington Hospital staff and resources using the community hospital implementation model. It was a real team effort that led to this success. Central Washington Hospitals previous financial management system relied heavily on paper-based processes, sometimes resulting in duplicate payments or overpayments. The hospital now uses the Lawson system to build customized reports to help hospital directors better manage vendors and order supplies. Reports provided by the hospitals legacy system were difficult to understand and often included information that managers and directors didnt need. Central Washington Hospital also lacked the ability to monitor and enforce its negotiated contract pricing. With Lawson, the hospital has tools to help it confirm whether supply prices match its contract agreements, improve decision-making on supply replenishment, and help ensure accurate, timely vendor payment. Like their larger peers, community hospitals need software that will help them run the business of healthcare efficiently, said Stacey Hicks, healthcare marketing director, Lawson Software. Our industry-leading software and proven healthcare expertise help customers like Central Washington Hospital reduce operational costs so they can focus on enhancing the quality of patient care. Lawson serves more than 500 healthcare industry customers representing more than 4,500 facilities, including eight of the top 10 integrated delivery networks. The company also serves managed care systems, academic medical centers, hospitals, clinics, physician group practices, home healthcare, long-term care and other health services enterprises.
