BOSTON, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wainwright Bank (NASDAQ:WAIN) last night awarded its 21st annual Wainwright Bank Social Justice Award to Community Servings and its CEO, David Waters. Community Servings, http://www.servings.org/, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free home-delivered meals throughout Eastern Massachusetts to people homebound with HIV/AIDS and other acute life-threatening illnesses, who are unable to shop or cook for themselves. The goals are to help people maintain their health and dignity, provide nutritionally and culturally appropriate meals, and send the message that someone cares. Community Servings clients come from very diverse backgrounds and represent many different ethnicities. Over 90% are living in poverty and 33% of the meals go to children. The 33 staff members and 1500 volunteers prepare and deliver two daily meals to 725 individuals and families. In addition, Community Servings provides food-service job training for men and women who face life challenges and barriers to employment, and conducts nutrition education programs to help those who no longer need their services. "My colleagues and I are delighted to receive this prestigious award from Wainwright, recognizing our shared efforts to feed the area's most needy and isolated residents. Through the generosity of the community, we have delivered 3.9 million free meals to the critically ill throughout Eastern Massachusetts. As CEO, I am also proud to be included in the impressive list of community leaders and friends that have received the Social Justice Award over the past 21 years," said David Waters of Community Servings. "This self-effacing man would protest that what he has accomplished is in any way remarkable, preferring to give others the credit. Toward that end we add our voice in acknowledging the important work he and his organization does," said Robert Glassman, Co-founder and Co-chairman of Wainwright Bank. The Wainwright Bank Social Justice Award was created to recognize nonprofits and affiliated individuals who have achieved outstanding success in addressing issues of social justice. The Award is accompanied by a $10,000 donation and was presented during the Bank's annual customer appreciation event attended by over 500 people at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. With $1 billion in assets and 12 branches throughout Greater Boston, Wainwright Bank is widely recognized as the country's leading socially progressive bank. It has committed over $700 million in loans to socially responsible development projects including affordable housing, environmental protection, HIV/AIDS services, homeless shelters, immigration services and more. The Bank was named the "ultimate high-purpose company" in a recently published book by award-winning author, Christine Arena, entitled "The High-Purpose Company: The Truly Responsible (and Highly Profitable) Firms That Are Changing Business Now".
