As the world’s largest manufacturer of printing inks and organic
pigments, Sun Chemical prides itself on its ability to quickly help
customers make the right choices from more than 100,000 different
color selections. To maintain complete and accurate product
information and leverage it for the customer’s benefit, Sun
Chemical relies on BMC Software (NYSE: BMC).
Using BMC CONTROL-M software, Sun Chemical has automated its
day-to-day batch processes, which includes 600 jobs a day. The
solution has reduced employee costs and standardized systems across
60 locations in 15 countries to maintain consistent and seamless
operations despite time, language and employee skill
differences.
When Sun Chemical launched plans to implement SAP four years
ago, the company turned to BMC to provide the enterprise batch
scheduling tool that would make the new system responsive to the
business’ needs. BMC CONTROL-M was implemented to support the
company’s extensive batch jobs, including billing, purchasing,
ordering, human resources and payment processes. Without BMC
CONTROL-M, Sun Chemical would need additional employees and larger
budgets to achieve the same results the company enjoys today.
“As the largest global producer of printing inks and pigments,
Sun Chemical really does deliver color to the world,” said Sonny
Samarakoon, the company’s technology lead for SAP implementation.
“Products manufactured by Sun Chemical touch virtually everyone’s
life. From magazines and consumer packaging to toys, automotive
paints and cosmetics, Sun Chemical brings nature’s vivid palette of
colors to people around the world.”
“Sun Chemical relies on BMC Software to help us manage a wide
variety of our operations, including creating chemical
combinations, taking orders, checking inventory, shipping logistics
and managing accounts receivable and payable. BMC allows us to stay
focused on the overall business because we don’t have to spend time
dealing with errors and delays.”
In addition to automating operational processes, BMC solutions
enable Sun Chemical team members to interact with and respond to
each other. When a customer places an order, it is entered directly
to the SAP system. The BMC CONTROL-M solution checks inventory and
executes shipping and invoicing, delivering the product to the
location closest to the customer.
External batch scheduling is critical to a smooth and efficient
business flow that meets deadlines. BMC CONTROL-M assures the
effective integration of SAP environments with other SAP and
non-SAP components, enabling the management of complex batch
environments like those managed by Sun Chemical.
