WellPoint Inc. (WLP) received notice from the government Wednesday that marketing and enrollment sanctions imposed on its Medicare products have been lifted in time to sign beneficiaries up for next year, the company said in a filing.

Effective Oct. 1, WellPoint may start marketing its Medicare Advantage health plans and Medicare Part D prescription-drug plans for seniors for the 2010 contract year.

The health insurer also will be permitted, as of Nov. 15, to enroll beneficiaries, other than low-income subsidy beneficiaries, for the 2010 contract year.

The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services had imposed the sanctions on WellPoint in January. WellPoint had said computer glitches caused thousands of seniors to be denied drug benefits at pharmacies or to be told mistakenly that their coverage had been canceled.
