Results shine a light on workforce trends among nurse clinicians who choose flexible work

Nursa, a nationwide platform that exists to put a nurse at the bedside of every patient in need, today announced the results of a survey examining the work and career preferences of its national nurse clinician user base. Survey responses from more than 2,000 registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and certified nurse assistants across 44 states provide a deeper understanding of career trends among nurses that opt for per diem work.

As a flexible healthcare staffing solution, Nursa connects qualified nurses with facilities in need of clinical staff to fill short-term shifts. The platform acts as a digital switchboard, enabling nurses across all specialties to sign up and find per diem shifts at nearby medical facilities.

Key findings from the survey include:

  • 72% of clinicians who use Nursa also have a full-time or part-time job
  • 28% reported working exclusively through staffing platforms
  • 33% of users are seeking a full-time or part-time position, and 10% would consider accepting the right job if offered
  • Up to 75% use at least one additional staffing app

“The pandemic not only exacerbated nurse staffing challenges, but also fueled spurious claims about per diem nurses being a threat to healthcare facilities,” said Curtis Anderson, CEO and founder of Nursa. “Our survey indicates that independent contract work doesn’t appeal to part-time nurses only. In fact, shift work exclusively available through Nursa appeals to a broad range of clinicians, including those who already work full time. This data paints a clear picture of the modern nurse and their quest for flexibility while remaining at patients’ bedsides.”
