Being Oscar is the first-person saga of the former
Mayor, who made a career defending Mafia figures before going into
politics. He became a legendary figure in Las Vegas political circles, first as Mayor
and now as an official spokesperson for the city. Goodman has been
married for the past 51 years to current Mayor Carolyn Goodman. His legacy: transforming a
struggling downtown area into a vibrant new cultural destination.
The book will likely be turned into a movie in the near future.
In the book, the former Mayor, who served for 12 years, explains
his rationale for a range of controversial decisions: becoming a
Mob lawyer, championing legalized drugs and prostitution and taking
on everyone from President Obama to the NFL.
As Goodman himself has noted: "It's been a great run, and the
beauty of it all is that it's not over. Life is still full for both
Carolyn and me."
Published May 21 by Weinstein Books, the 312-page book is priced at
$26.
