PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 29,
2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Wolters Kluwer Health, a
leading global provider of information and point-of-care solutions
for the healthcare industry, today announced it has updated the
Lippincott Procedures online software with a
set of medical-surgical nursing procedures that underwent extensive
review by the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses
(AMSN), the largest nursing organization dedicated to the
medical-surgical specialty. One-quarter of the 395
AMSN-endorsed procedures are included in the October Lippincott
Procedures update with the remainder to be released quarterly
through July 2015. Regularly updated with the latest
evidence, Lippincott Procedures is one of the leading online
clinical decision-support solutions used by nurses and other
clinicians at the bedside.
All 395 medical-surgical procedures are being reviewed,
developed and/or modified by a select team of experts from the AMSN
membership of more than 11,000 nurses. The first set of
approximately 96 new and updated procedures, including "Safe
Medication Administration Practices" and "Indwelling Urinary
Catheter (Foley) Care and
Management," is available to subscription customers in the
product's October quarterly software update. All of the
AMSN-reviewed procedures are endorsed to meet current,
evidence-based standards of exemplary quality-of-care as defined by
AMSN.
"Our goal is to help nurses improve their quality-of-care, which
is well aligned with what Wolters Kluwer Health is working to
achieve with the Lippincott Procedures product," said
Kathleen Lattavo, MSN, RN, CNS-MS,
CMSRN, RNBC, ACNS-BC, President of the Academy of Medical-Surgical
Nurses. "By offering insight into the medical-surgical
specialty, our experts are helping continue the product's tradition
as one of the most current and trusted source of evidenced-based
clinical practices."
"We have been working with AMSN since January, when we first
announced our collaboration, and are very excited to bring the
fruits of our labor online and make them available to our
customers," said Carolyn Dalton,
Senior Digital Product Manager, Wolters Kluwer Health, Professional
& Education.
Lippincott Procedures is one of the most widely deployed,
web-based nursing applications for evidence-based practice
information used in hospitals and other healthcare institutions.
It gives clinicians accurate, step-by-step guidance for more
than 1,600 evidence-based procedures. Video clips and
high-quality visuals that aid in understanding accompany most of
the procedures. Skills checklists and competency tests for
each procedure are provided to help facilities verify staff
competence. Each procedure undergoes a thorough annual review
process to ensure it includes the most up-to-date clinical
information.
Lippincott Procedures, part of the Lippincott
Solutions product suite, is available as a group
subscription to hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
The product is accessible from any Internet-enabled device
including PCs and mobile devices including iPad and Android tablets
as well as an iPad app. To learn more or to purchase, call
