ENI SpA (ENI.MI) has completed the acquisition of a solar project in Australia, thus entering the country's renewables market, it said Tuesday.

The Italian energy company said it has bought a construction-ready solar photovoltaic project near Katherine, in the Northern Territory, from Katherine Solar Pty Ltd--a joint venture between Epuron and Island Green Power.

Construction should start in the next few weeks and commercial operation should begin in the fourth quarter of this year, ENI said.

Epuron will be actively involved in managing the farm once it is operational, ENI said.
