Enel SpA (ENEL.MI) said Wednesday that net profit rose 19% in the first quarter, boosted by its renewables and networks businesses.

Net profit jumped to 1.17 billion euros ($1.39 billion) in the period, compared with EUR983 million the year-earlier period, the Rome-based power company said.

Earnings before interest and taxes increased 0.5% to EUR2.54 billion in the quarter, while revenue edged 2.2% lower to EUR18.95 billion, mostly due to exchange-rate effects, it said.

"The results achieved and progress delivered so far in the implementation of our 2018-20 Strategic Plan allow us to confirm our financial targets for 2018," said Chief Executive Francesco Starace.
