ENI SpA (ENI.MI) is to team up with Italy's National Research
Council to research fusion energy and other sustainable
technologies, as well as climate change.
The utility company said Sunday that it agreed to set up four
research centers in southern Italy. A facility in Lecce will focus
on arctic climate change, while magnetic confinements for fusion
energy will be researched in Gela.
In Basilicata, the two partners will look into sustainable water
cycles, while a center in Portici will study agricultural methods
that emit less CO2, ENI said.
The research agreement is in line with the United Nations' 2030
sustainable development goals, CNR President Massimo Inguscio
said.
"At the same time, it will also promote solutions for and help
mitigate the growing impact of drought in the Mediterranean and
strategic areas like the Horn of Africa, the Sahel and the Middle
East," he said.
