Regulatory News:
During a visit to Barcelona to inaugurate the first cold
recovery network in Spain at the Port of Barcelona alongside its
local partners, Veolia (Paris:VIE) unveiled its growth ambitions in
the Spanish environmental services market.
Driven by the GreenUp strategic plan, the Group displays, in
Spain, solid ambitions in terms of growth and investments in order
to continue offering its municipal and industrial clients
customized, innovative and effective solutions in response to their
challenges. Veolia is thus using its global expertise in optimized
resource management using digital technology, desalination of
seawater, or the treatment of pollutants such as PFAS to change the
game in Spain. In Europe, Spain is a key area for Veolia which,
after investing more than €360 million between 2022 and 2023 to
reach a turnover of €2.6 billion in 2023, continues its ambitious
growth trajectory.
In the water sector, Veolia Spain offers solutions on the
complete management of the water cycle for cities, industries and
agriculture. While 75% of the Spanish territory is currently at
risk of desertification and Spain is directly facing the
consequences of climate change, Veolia invests and innovates to
help territories adapt. Between 2022 and 2023 Veolia invested
more than €270 million in adaptation, both in water concessions,
the implementation of innovative solutions to reuse wastewater or
to ensure quality water free of pollutants, and also in
drought-related plans.
The Group also has significant ambitions in the sectors of
energy efficiency and waste recycling, both at the heart of its
strategy to depollute, decarbonize and preserve resources in
Spain.
As a leader in energy efficiency in Spain, Veolia aims to
support the country's electrification and decarbonization. 8
acquisitions in this sector will be concluded by the end of the
year, including Geoter, Groen, Electrimega, Frimarte and
Cactus, with a total investment of €50 million.
In the waste sector, the Group has made several key acquisitions
between 2020 and 2023, notably the sites of TorrePET in Extremadura
and La Red in Andalusia, specializing in plastic recycling. Veolia
will thus be able to continue its work to maximize circularity,
recycling and the recovery of materials.
"All over the world, we act and innovate to provide the most
suitable solutions for different territories to help them adapt to
the consequences of climate change. In this regard, Spain
undoubtedly holds a special place for our Group. Given the
resurgence and power of the country's successive climate episodes,
and as 70% of Spanish citizens feel vulnerable to the effects of
climate change today, it is more necessary than ever to act
quickly. It is in this sense that we are accelerating our efforts
to innovate alongside our customers and local partners. The
investments we have initiated, both to ensure the best quality
water under all circumstances and to locally produce renewable
energies or even develop recycling, will allow the Spanish
population to be better equipped to face the challenges posed by
climate change", declares Estelle Brachlianoff, CEO of
Veolia.
